My First Halloween - 5 Weeks Old!!

Well what another week we had!! More GROWING UP...Jaxton has FOUND his hands and likes to suck on them when hungry and I hear him at night sucking on them to soothe himself...when I got up to check on him the other night I sat and watched him for a moment fiddle with his hands and then IT HAPPENED....HE FOUND HIS THUMB and began SUCKING...Luckily it only lasted a few seconds since the his fine motor control is not totally developed yet...BUT I THINK WE MIGHT HAVE A THUMB SUCKER!!

The only time he takes his pacifier is when he is REALLY REALLY tired and is fighting to go to sleep or at times like this week at the Doctor. I took him on Tuesday because he had gooey eyes and his nose was stuffy and I didn't want to take any chances of him getting sick so off we went!! When we got there they of course weighed him again and he is now 9 POUNDS 6 OUNCES!! He's getting little chunky thighs now!! She said he was not sick nor had a cold but that his tear ducts were beginning to work and they can get clogged so just to massage on the sides of his upper nose to help keep them clear and that with the temperature changes outside that his nose was just trying to adjust. She recommended I put 1 saline drop in each nostril and suck it out...BOY DOES THAT SALINE WORK GREAT!..hard boogies to soft boogies instantly!! I was surprised when she said that one of the 21 different newborn screening tests that they do came back slightly elevated...MY HEART STOPPED!!! It is called CAH - Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia which means that the hormone to control his electrolytes may be unbalanced and that if we did a further diagnosis test and it came back positive he would have to have a supplement for the REST OF HIS LIFE..if he didn't then he would bottom out if he had diarrhea or was vomiting...SO OFF TO THE BLOOD BANK again with him and this time they took it out of his forearm like they do ours...this is where he was sucking the pacifier so fast to withstand the pain...we ( including the nurses ) were all sweating bullets as she was trying to get a good blood flow and then finally she did and we all breathed and Jaxton quit sucking so hard!!! WELL there is GOOD news so far...his electrolytes are in balance and we will find out on Monday if the hormone is out of whack or this was just a false positive....which the Dr. thinks it should be!! I guess this is where the worrying begins FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE FOR HIM!!!

Anyways, we had some progress this week in terms of sleep!! I put Jaxton into the Pack n Play because it has a bed on top to see if he likes that better ( for some chance ) than his sweet little bassinet which I just adore!! And what would you know...HE LOVES IT!!! Could have saved me a few extra dollars if I would have known...PLUS he hates ALL the sleep positioners I have bought too...this little man does not like to be constrained in any way!! He sleeps really good in the Pack n Play Now ...maybe because it is darker colors or has more room or that he just wanted something new to sleep in...whatever it is I am glad he likes it!! He even talks to himself in the morning instead of crying before he is ready to get up now!! Yea!! A few more extra minutes of shut eye for me!! He still is eating every 2 or 21/2 or 3 hours but goes right back down after he eats in the middle of the night!! The rocking and swaying are getting less and less needed!!! Thank goodness because my butt is getting so sore from rocking, rocking, rocking!!!

The BEST part of this whole week was that he is truly SMILING NOW!!! Talk about your heart dropping when he does that!!

The WORST part of this whole week which could of ended up really bad was when I was "pumping"in the bathroom and came out to see that Ross was changing Jaxton's diaper and as I walked over there right before he was about to wipe his bottom with what he THOUGHT WAS A BABY WIPE was actually CLOROX wipes I had near the changing table to clean the table!! I grabbed the wipe just before he was about to taint our son with horrible chemicals and prevented anyone from calling CPS if they were to have witnessed that instead of me!!! Whew!!!

Last BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST we celebrated Jaxton's first Halloween! Or I did at least by playing dress-up again!! We had our fun and then I wore him out so he slept the whole evening away while we handed out candy and drank some champagne and wine!! Oh by the way, one glass for me, BUT I went on-line to http://www.milkscreenmoms.com/ and ordered the test strips that you test your breast milk with after you have had any alcohol to make sure the milk is safe for him!! No more guessing or having to withhold from the precious grape juice!!

See ya on Election Day!! ( I was able to get away and vote...yea!!)
